Dr Rainer Pflaum is a member of the management board of TransnetBW GmbH, the transmission system operator in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He is responsible for Finance & Governance, Network Management and Human Resources. After holding various management positions in the banking sector and in the energy industry, he now directs his network management focus mainly to issues relating to the future significance of the electricity transmission grid in a generation environment characterized primarily by renewable energies and the influence of increasing digitalization.
Under his responsibility, TransnetBW entered into a joint venture with MHP Consulting in 2021. The aim is to offer innovative consulting services on the market by combining the energy industry expertise of TransnetBW and the consulting and IT expertise of MHP in the context of the energy and mobility transition. To this end, TransnetBW has created its own brand, “IE2S – Intelligent Energy System Services.”
Pflaum is involved in various committees in the energy industry, including as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TSCNET Services GmbH, Munich, is a member of the Executive Board of the Baden-Württemberg Association for the Energy Industry (VfEW), Stuttgart, and a member of the Executive Board of the Institute for Energy and Regulatory Law, Berlin. Since the end of 2021, he has also been Managing Director of Flexcess GmbH, which was established in collaboration with TenneT and through which TransnetBW holds a stake in Equigy B. V., a company supported by various European transmission system operators with the aim of making small-scale and load-side flexibility usable for the grid.
